Liverpool player Luis Diaz has been reunited with his father since he was kidnapped.

The father of Luis Diaz was kidnapped in northern Columbia by a group called Guerrilla which took place last month where armed men on motor cycles kidnapped both his parents from a petrol station in the small town known as Barrancas on the 28th of October. very shortly after this his mother was in fact rescued by police where they set up road blocks in attempt to stop the kidnappers leaving the town.
Special forces were deployed as quick as possible to look for Diaz's father in the mountains that surrounded the town that boarded Venezuela. At this point in time the authorities did not know who carried out the kidnapping, however not long after it had taken place the Government released information to the public that it was inf act a unit of the National Liberation Army who committed this crime. This group later responded in claiming that it was a mistake, with the leadership of the group ordering his father to be released.
The authorities have now arrested four suspects and also ordered that anyone else that they still held in captivity is to be released as soon as possible as Columbias Ombudsman's Office estimates that 160 kidnappings took place by armed groups in 2022, in which 121 of those led to release.
Luis Diaz played in a 1-1 draw vs Luton town while his father was held captive after he had reassurances that his father would be safe. In this game he came on in the last ten minutes to score the winner. To celebrate this goal he lifted up his top to show a message which said "Libertad papa papa", which translates to 'freedom for my father'.
